Soon-to-be college students invited to ‘Meet Maryville’ at March 25 event for prospective students
March 13, 2023
Maryville College administrators are expecting the largest incoming first-year class in recent history this fall, but the MC Admissions staff has a message for soon-to-be college students who are still undecided: There’s always room for more.
On Saturday, March 25, high school students, adult learners and college transfer students are invited to Maryville College’s “Meet Maryville” event, a preview day designed to help students get to know the institution, discover academic and potential career paths and experience what life might look like as part of the student body enrolled at the nationally ranked institution of higher learning, which also happens to be one of America’s oldest colleges.
“There’s greater interest in Maryville College than ever before, and whether attendees are seeking more information or have already committed, Meet Maryville is the perfect opportunity to get to know us better,” said Alayne Bowman, vice president for Admissions and Financial Aid. “At Meet Maryville, potential students and their families can talk to our faculty members, meet current students, get to know our staff and get a glimpse of all we have to offer. Whether attendees have been regulars at athletic events and concerts in the Clayton Center for the Arts or have never set foot on campus, they’ll learn something new at Meet Maryville.”
In addition to learning more about the College’s programs of study and campus life, students and parents will have opportunities to learn about financial aid and scholarships, including the full-tuition McGill Scholarship, which is awarded to high-achieving applicants.
Check-in for Meet Maryville begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Clayton Center, followed by a 9 a.m. welcome address by College President Dr. Bryan F. Coker in the complex’s Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre. At 9:30 a.m., attendees can browse the Academic Division and Student Life Fair in the William Baxter Lee III Grand Foyer, where faculty and staff members of the College’s nine academic divisions will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.
In addition, representatives from various auxiliary on-campus organizations and departments will be available to provide information about such programs as Mountain Challenge; the Military Student Center; disability resources; athletics, study abroad opportunities through the Center for Global Engagement; academic support services; faith and community engagement involvement; student clubs and organizations; and more.
The March 25 event will also include Q&A sessions for parents and students; tours of campus; lunch in Pearsons Hall; and afternoon activities that include introductions to enrollment counselors, tours of on-campus residence halls and the Clayton Center, and STEM student interest sessions.
“Everyone who takes the time to learn more about Maryville College is always surprised by how much goes on here,” Bowman said. “Our campus is beautiful and historic and peaceful, but inside the walls of these buildings, we’ve got faculty and staff members doing great things, and we love when students choose to come here to be a part of that. I would encourage anyone who wants to know more about Maryville College to register.”
Additional opportunities
For students and family members who cannot attend Meet Maryville, the Admissions office offers several other options to visit campus.
During the academic year (September through April), the Office of Admissions offers tours Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Summer tours (May through August) are offered Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays only. (The College is in the Eastern time zone.)
“Even if they attend a Meet Maryville, we encourage students to schedule an individual visit at a later date, which can be more personalized,” Bowman said. “Visits that allow students to sit in on a class that relates to their area of interest and talk to faculty members who teach in their areas of interest really help prospective students answer that question of ‘fit’ – ‘Am I a good fit for Maryville College?’ ‘Is Maryville a good fit for me?’”
The College’s Admissions Office will offer Saturday tours at 10:30 a.m. eastern time on April 15 and 29.
