- Tuesdays at 3:00pm
- Wednesdays at 2:00pm
- Thursdays at 1:00pm

If the Counseling Center is closed, Uwill is a free mental health service provided by Maryville College for free virtual teletherapy for students. Students are able to choose their therapist based on preferences such as gender, language, ethnicity, or focus area. Uwill also provides a 24/7/364 helpline for those students who are experiencing a mental health crisis or some level of distress. Uwill is a great alternative for students who would prefer virtual therapy rather than coming to the Counseling Center on campus. They can also help with breaks and when students return home over the summer. Students will receive more information and instructions for how to sign up.
The MC Counseling Center provides a safe, confidential, nonjudgmental space where students can feel free to explore a wide variety of concerns and issues.
Counseling Center records are confidential and are separate from other college records. The privacy of communication between clients and mental health professionals is protected by law. Information about students or their treatment cannot be disclosed to others without their written consent, except for cases of imminent danger to themselves or others, reports of child/elder/disabled abuse, or a court order.
The Center operates from a flexible care model that emphasizes brief, solution-focused treatment approaches. What this means is that we offer a variety of treatment options to help students in the most direct and efficient way possible. It isn’t a one size fits all approach. Not everyone needs or wants individual therapy. For some issues, group counseling or a skill building workshop is the best approach.
During your initial session, you will meet with a counselor for 30 minutes to discuss your particular concerns and goals. Together, you will create a plan that could include a combination of weekly, biweekly or monthly 30-60 minute sessions, workshops, a support group or online self-help resources.
During the course of therapy, you may uncover painful or emotionally uncomfortable experiences, but you will also have the opportunity to grow the capacity to effectively notice those feelings with mindfulness and self-compassion. Psychotherapeutic interventions may include talking, being outside, practicing tools and skills, expressive arts, somatic (body oriented) or awareness practices.
Because the MC Counseling Center must be available to meet the mental health needs of our whole student body, our primary focus is to provide ongoing treatment and acute/crisis services. We do not have the resources to provide psychological assessments for the purposes of disability documentation and/or ESA prescriptions.
Please reach out to Disability Services for more information.
